Jean Van Lint’s musical journey is deeply rooted in his upbringing. Growing up in a household filled with music, Jean was influenced by both his mother, Louise Lava, a successful ‘Chanson Française’ singer-songwriter, and his father, a renowned jazz pianist in the Belgian jazz scene. This rich musical heritage shaped his career, fostering a natural inclination toward music from an early age.
Starting with classical piano training, Jean eventually found his passion for the bass guitar and later focused on mastering the double bass. Over time, he became one of the most prominent bass players in the Belgian jazz scene, known for his distinctive style and expertise.
But Jean is not just a talented bassist—he is also an accomplished singer. His crooner voice, smooth and captivating, blends seamlessly with the groove of his bass playing. What sets him apart is his ability to develop melodic and swinging ‘scat’ improvisations while maintaining a steady walking bass, creating a rich, layered sound.
Though his roots are firmly planted in classic jazz, Jean’s versatility allows him to thrive in contemporary styles as well, from fusion to pop, making him a dynamic and sought-after musician across a range of genres. Whether performing traditional jazz standards or exploring more modern sounds, Jean’s musicality continues to captivate his audience.
